Sanctuary animals by group
Libby
Libby’s previous owner reached out because Libby didn’t, fit in with her herd. Sadly, Libby had been shifted on several occasions, and we hope this move will be her last and she will be happy here.
Milly
Milly came to Hidden Valley Farm sanctuary as a much loved pet, sadly due to her human companions personal cercumstances Millys future was uncertain. Milly settled in well and is quite the charector.
Forest
Forest is a very mischievious pony, always looking for something of interest. Terri often see’s him winding up the other geldings. Having said that he loves attention and love.
Pixi
Pixi is our smallest Mini Shetland Pony. Pixi has a big attitude for a small pony and is very sweet. (Mum to Rosie & Nellie)
Rosie
Rosie is the daughter of Pixi and a pretty Appaloosa type. She is young and full of beans but needs some handling and training. She will be a lovely friend to someone.
Alan
Alan the alpaca arrived at Hidden Valley Farm with his bestie BB. They are inseparable. Alan is very shy but starting to come out of his shell. He loves his daily sliced Frasers Orchard apples.

Edwin
Edwin has joined the team to keep some of our other wee unwanted visitors at bay. He’s proving to be quite the entertainer and loves his drives in the buggy up and down our farm drive.
Tyla
She keeps full ownership and is able to follow her retirement, living as a herd on Takaka Hill. Tyla was living on the flat for several years and we noticed she didn’t have a lot of muscle.
Nellie
Nellie from day one has been strong bright and curious. Nellie was named after a helpxchange visitor who kept the farm running while we were away during the winter of 2023.
Spider
Spider is a stunning little tortoise shell farm yard cat, who joined us with one job: to manage the vermin. Her sweet character captures everyone’s heart.
Tilly
Tilly is a boarder collie, bred to work on the farm. She has loads of instinct but much more a pet than a working dog. If you visit, just let her come to you and she will settle.
Gail
It was always Terri’s dream to rescue dairy calves. Gail arrived at only 5 days old. Gail will grow and live here forever, providing milk for some Takaka valley families.

Denis
Denis born to Libby and Alan arrived in the early hours on a very wet day. what joy he bough us for the short time he was with us.
Russell
Russell was rescued by Terri many years ago. Since living at Hidden Valley Farm his suffering improved ten fold. He is the boss gelding and loves his life on the farm. Terri loves Russell so much.
Babs
Babs (Barrrr-bra) is an ex-dairy goat and became a pet to a lady in Richmond. Unfortunately she needed to move south and was unable to take Babs along. So Babs joined the Hidden Valley family.
PiggySue
Piggysue arrived in Jims arms, as a very young abondoned or lost piglett, off the Hidden Valley Farm. She is laid to rest in our sanctuary cemetery.
Obiwan
OBiwan is one of the most curious ponies we have, he loves cuddles and has proved to be a perfect therapy pony for those who are nerves of horses.
Zozzy
Zozzy’s mum was put into their care for several months, while her family were overseas. All but Zozzy were rehomed, so he stayed with Terri to catch mice. He is now very old and retired to the farm house.

It is a win win however in our pet sponsorship program. As you get to choose which pet to sponsor giving you access to them, to enjoy on sunny days. We do the rest.
